Phase 1 trial evaluates safety and adherence to 5-fluorouracil in HIV-positive women, highlighting treatment in LMICs.
(Abstracted from medRxiv [Preprint] 2024:2024.06.06.24308548, doi:10.1101/2024.06.06.24308548) An overwhelming majority of cervical cancer deaths occur in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) due to a high prevalence of HIV, which can increase the risk of cervical cancer by more than 6-fold. Driving this disparity is the limited access to screening and treatment for precancerous lesions in LMICs, along with high recurrence rates.
