Case study demonstrates improved zonal isolation and oil gain using advanced cement evaluation methods.
Ensuring well integrity and achieving zonal isolation are critical components in the successful completion and water-free production of reservoirs located behind double casing strings. This study presents the application of a cutting-edge multi-barrier cement evaluation technology, which was pivotal in selecting perforation intervals with high confidence for zonal isolation. The target reservoir, situated behind 9-5/8" and 13-3/8" casings, required comprehensive evaluation of both annuluses. Due to the absence of cement evaluation logs for the 13-3/8" casing, an advanced logging program was implemented, utilizing innovative acoustic technology that enables cement evaluation behind double casing strings. This technology employs Deep Array Multimode Sonic and Ultrasonic measurements, surpassing conventional monopole methods. The acoustic analysis revealed varying cement bonding quality, allowing for precise identification of completion intervals with robust cement integrity. Consequently, the perforation plan was executed successfully, resulting in an impressive oil gain of approximately 1000 BOPD. This breakthrough technology facilitated the completion of intervals typically bypassed due to high water cut risks, enhancing production effectiveness in developed fields. The study underscores the potential of this novel approach in optimizing resource extraction and advancing well operations in challenging environments.
