Linear regression uncovers correlations between perivascular space markers and cognitive impairment, suggesting implications for intervention strategies.
Motivation: The relationship between perivascular space markers and cognitive impairment in the subacute phase of IS remains unclear. Goal(s): Our study aims to explore the relationship between PVS, DTI-ALPS and cognitive impairment in patients with subacute ischemic stroke. Approach: We performed linear regression models to assess the correlation between these two magnetic resonance imaging metrics and to examine their relationship with cerebrovascular risk factors and cognitive impairment. Results: This study found positive correlations between PVS burden, DTI-ALPS index and cognitive impairment in subacute ischemic stroke patients. Impact: Our findings suggest that PVS burden and DTI-ALPS index may contribute to the pathophysiology of post-stroke cognitive impairment. This knowledge may ultimately inform the development of targeted interventions and therapeutic strategies aimed at preserving cognitive function in this population.
