This study demonstrates improved fatty acid composition mapping in vivo at 5.0T MRI, indicating potential for diverse tissue research.
Motivation: Chemical-shift encoded (CSE) imaging would enable the more precise quantification of fatty acid composition (FAC) in vivo at 5.0T MR with higher SNR and spectral resolution. Goal(s): To validate the accuracy of FAC quantification using 5.0T MR and evaluate the feasibility of in vivo FAC maps. Approach: The FAC of different oil phantoms was quantified and compared between MRS-methods using NMR, and CSE-based methods at 3.0T and 5.0T. The FAC maps of one volunteer were also generated. Results: The FAC parameters from 5.0T correlated well with the reference using the MRS-based method. The feasibility of FAC images using 5.0T scanner was also demonstrated. Impact: This study demonstrates the accuracy and feasibility of in vivo FAC quantification using a 5.0T MR system, which promotes the further research on FAC in diverse tissues at various physio-pathological states using ultra-high field strength.
