Development of a dual-channel RF coil enhances sensitivity for 1H, 31P, and 13C in calf muscle MRI/MRS, indicating broader applications.
Motivation: Multi-nuclear MRI/MRS provides non-invasive insights into muscle vitality, which can help in early diagnosis and intervention. Goal(s): To develop an efficient triple-tuned RF coil capable of acquiring signals from 1H, 31P, and 13C simultaneously for calf muscle MRI/MRS at 7T. Approach: A novel dual-channel triple-tuned RF coil is proposed by combining a dipole antenna with a dual-tuned butterfly coil, providing effective decoupling and high sensitivity. Results: Electromagnetic simulations and bench tests of the novel coil design demonstrated successful decoupling and high sensitivity for all three nuclei, with excellent coverage of the calf muscle at 7T. Impact: This design facilitates comprehensive muscle assessment using MRI/MRS at ultra-high field strength and has the potential to expand its applications to other anatomical areas and nuclei.
