Analysis reveals gut microbiome shifts and metabolites in Crohn's disease, indicating inflammation's role in MRE abnormalities.
Motivation: CD is incurable, often requiring surgery; multiomics factors' roles in inflammation and MRE need clarification. Goal(s): Identify inflammation-related multiomics factors and their interactions with magnetic resonance enterography (MRE) to provide novel targets for CD management. Approach: This study analyzed 425 CD patients and 42 healthy controls using MRE, ileocolonoscopy, 16S rRNA analysis, and targeted metabolomics. Results: Ruminococcus species increased in CD; Pseudomonas and Staphylococcus linked to severe inflammation. Key metabolites influence intestinal changes and inflammation progression. Impact: Findings highlight dynamic alterations in gut microbiota and metabolites, offering insights for improved inflammation management in CD.
