Dynamic analysis indicates changes in cranio-spinal pulsatility in IIH patients after lumbar puncture, suggesting implications for patient care.
Motivation: Alterations in intracranial pressure (ICP) affect brain dynamics, with potential implications in idiopathic intracranial hypertension (IIH). Goal(s): To develop a dynamical analysis method that can help visualize differences in intracranial and intraspinal pulsatility following lumbar puncture. Approach: Dominant modal frequency and associated spatial patterns from dynamic mode decomposition were investigated based on amplified MR images of brain and spine, acquired pre- and post-lumbar puncture from IIH patients. Results: Following lumbar puncture, shifts in dominant modes and spatial patterns of in the cranio-spinal region were observed, with a trend of increased spinal cord motion. Impact: This study provides preliminary insights into how ICP change influenced cranio-spinal pulsatility. Spatiotemporal analysis methods have the potential to enhance patient care and support the continued development of advanced MRI techniques for clinical application.
