The study generates an EM model to predict B1+ distributions in phantoms using a 7T RF head coil, suggesting improved patient safety.
Motivation: An electromagnetic (EM) simulation model for the Nova 8Tx32Rx 7T Head Coil is not available for analyzing patient safety in 7T imaging applications. Goal(s): Our goal is to create an accurate EM model for the Nova 8Tx32Rx 7T Head Coil and estimate the B1+ distributions in phantoms through simulations. Approach: Our EM model for the coil consists of conductor paths, determined through trial and error. The model is validated with simulation results and experimentally measured B1+ maps. Results: The model can be used to predict the B1+ maps provided by the vendor (simulated) and the B1+ field experimentally acquired in a 7T system. Impact: The simulation model developed for the 7T Nova coil showed promising results to estimate fields inside different phantoms. The model could improve research areas involving the Nova coil such as high-permittivity materials, implant safety, RF coils, and pTx pulse design.
