Prospective study reveals MR neurography aids assessment of peripheral nerve injury in GBS patients, suggesting clinical value.
Motivation: The accurate imaging evaluation of peripheral nerve injury in Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) patients is limited but crucial for clinical diagnosis and treatment. Goal(s): To explore the value of MR neurography (MRN) in evaluating the peripheral nerve injury in GBS patients. Approach: This prospective study involved lower limbs MRN scans of 36 GBS patients and healthy volunteers respectively. The correlation between cross-sectional areas (CSA) and signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) values, nerve scores and electrophysiology parameters of GBS group were compared. Results: MR neurography showed larger CSA, higher SNR values in GBS patients (P<0.05). The SNR values and nerve scores were correlated with electrophysiological parameters (P<0.05). Impact: This study suggested that MRN can evaluate different degrees of peripheral nerve injury in GBS patients and confirmed the correlation with electrophysiological parameters.
