Clinical comparison evaluates 7T ZTE MRI for knee osseous abnormalities against CT, highlighting non-invasive benefits.
Motivation: Current imaging techniques for knee joint osseous abnormalities have limitations in radiation exposure and soft tissue contrast. A non-invasive, radiation-free imaging method is needed. Goal(s): To evaluate the potential of 7T ZTE imaging in detecting knee osseous abnormalities compared to CT. Approach: A clinical study comparing 7T ZTE and CT for detecting knee joint osseous abnormalities, with qualitative assessment for bone structures by musculoskeletal radiologists. Results: 7T ZTE demonstrated high diagnostic consistency with CT, providing superior visualization of osteophytes, cortical, and trabecular bone, though it was less effective in delineating epiphyseal lines. Impact: This study highlights 7T ZTE as a promising, non-invasive, and radiation-free alternative for evaluating knee joint bone abnormalities, potentially enhancing clinical diagnostic accuracy and patient safety.
