Evaluation reveals improved diagnosis of osteoporosis using fat fraction and T2 value in patients, suggesting enhanced screening methods.
Motivation: Existing studies have focused on a single parameter, fat fraction (FF) or T2* value, to assess osteoporosis with low diagnostic efficacy. Goal(s): The study aimed to evaluate the efficacy of FF,T2* value, and their combination in diagnosing osteoporosis. Approach: The IDEAL IQ MR sequence was used to measure the FF and T2*value of the vertebral, and quantitative computed tomography was used to measure vBMD. Results: Significant discrimination in FF and T2* value were found between normal individuals and osteoporotic patients, and the efficacy of the combination of FF and T2* for the diagnosis of osteoporosis was superior to that of a single indicator. Impact: MRI-based FF and T2* value can be used as a supplement to BMD for early assessment of fracture risk to prevent fragility fractures.
