Design demonstrates improved transmission coefficients in a multi-channel array for MRI, suggesting essential advances in antenna technology.
Motivation: The dipole antenna has relatively long length in the z-axis direction, making it difficult to arrange multi-channels in the z-axis direction. Furthermore, decoupling methods must be considered to arrange multiple channels. Goal(s): Our goal is to derive the structure of a shortened and self-decoupled dipole antenna. Approach: Based on electromagnetic simulation, we designed the self-decoupled dipole(SDD) antenna consisting of dipole antenna, FR-4 and additional conductor line. Results: The SDD has a length of 100mm in the z-axis direction. Additionally, the 2-channel SDD arrays showed -40dB and -30dB of transmission coefficient in EM simulation and bench measurements without decoupling method. Impact: Our proposed dipole antenna can be reduced the length in the z-axis direction and can be decoupled without decoupling circuitries. The proposed design can effectively be used in multi-channel array for brain or body application in ultra-high field MRI.
