This study demonstrates how nanoparticles improve tumor targeting and detection in metastatic lung cancer using 19F MRI, suggesting enhanced diagnostic accuracy.
Motivation: Clinical studies emphasize that early detection of metastases is crucial to prevent disease progression and improve the chances of a cure. Goal(s): Diagnose early-stage metastatic lung cancer using 19F MRI. Approach: l We developed a dual-component nanoplatform for detecting pulmonary metastases with enhanced targeting in 19F MRI. Using DMXAA, a vascular-disrupting agent, we induced precise coagulation at metastatic lung lesions. This coagulation recruits the 19F MRI probe (CFlip NPs), specifically targeting polymerized fibrin. Results: Activation of the coagulation cascade successfully amplified targeting in both subcutaneous and lung tumor models, demonstrating strong potential for early metastatic detection in clinical settings. Impact: This platform provides a significant step forward in precise tumor imaging, opening avenues for improved diagnostic accuracy and timely intervention in metastatic lung cancer.
