Preliminary results reveal metabolic signatures in ADPKD and CKD patients, suggesting potential biomarkers for disease monitoring.
Motivation: Metabolic features of autosomal-dominant-polycystic-kidney-disease (ADPKD) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) are not fully understood and cannot be examined with current clinical tools. It may be possible with Hyperpolarized [1-13C]pyruvate (HP 13C) MRI. Goal(s): To evaluate HP 13C MR images including metabolic profiles in both ADPKD- and CKD-patients compared with healthy controls. Approach: Presenting the preliminary results of initial participants included in the ongoing clinical trial entitled "Chronic kidney disease - imaging the metabolic derangements with ultra-sensitive MRI". Results: Initial evaluation of results might indicate metabolic profiles as biomarkers in disease progression in ADPKD patients. Impact: The metabolic signatures and images obtained from HP 13C MR may help monitoring disease progression in autosomal-dominant-polycystic-kidney-disease (ADPKD) and chronic kidney disease (CKD) and increase knowledge of pathological elements in these diseases.
