Observational analysis improved image quality in cardiac MRI, indicating potential for motion correction.
Motivation: Respiratory motion during data acquisition poses significant challenges in cardiac MRI Goal(s): In this study, we proposed a non-contact prospective motion estimation and correction technique using Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave radar signals. Approach: The FMCW radar system was developed to measure chest movement during breathing. A calibration scan was performed to create a patient-specific motion model, correlating respiration-induced heart motion with the FMCW radar signal. This model was then used to enable real-time motion estimation and correction during the imaging scan, aligning each k-space readout line by tracking the slice location. Results: The proposed method effectively improved the image quality. Impact: In this study, we demonstrated that the FMCW radar signal is a suitable surrogate for motion estimation and correction. The proposed respiratory motion-correction technique shows promising potential in reducing motion artifacts in cardiac MRI.
