Design improves SNR and brain coverage in marmosets, suggesting potential for Alzheimer's evaluation.
Motivation: The coil was designed to maximize the SNR over the entire head of a common marmoset, considering the anesthesia apparatus, such as ear bars and the anesthesia mask. Goal(s): Build a 16 channel marmoset head coil for 9.4T to gain higher SNR and whole brain coverage. Approach: Build 16 channel received only coil for marmoset brain anatomical scanning and optimize decoupling, active detuning, and preamplifier decoupling. Perform phantom and marmoset test to validate it's sensitivity and coverage. Results: The present work describes the design, characterization, and tests of a 16-channel receive-only array for marmoset brain MRI at 9.4T. Impact: Higher SNR anatomical images may decode new features for the longitudinal evaluation of different stages of Alzheimer's disease progression.
