This study reveals enhanced magnetic susceptibility in cobalt coordination complexes, suggesting structural polymorphism influences magnetic properties.
The rational design of molecular magnetic materials relies on precise control of crystal packing and intermolecular interactions, with molar magnetic susceptibility (χ M ) serving as a critical parameter influenced by unpaired electrons and supramolecular organization. This study investigates the impact of structural polymorphism on magnetic properties in cobalt (II) coordination complexes [{Co(dpa OMe )} 2 DHBQ](BF 4 ) 2 ·2CH 3 OH ( 1 ) and [{Co(dpa OMe )} 2 DHBQ](BF 4 ) 2 ·2CH 3 CH 2 OCH 2 CH 3 ( 2 ) and employs single-crystal X-ray diffraction to elucidate their distinct molecular packing geometries and π-π stacking networks. Magnetic susceptibility measurements reveal that 1 exhibits stronger antiferromagnetic coupling in the methanol-solvated structure due to optimized π-orbital overlap.
