Abstract The complexity of contemporary scientific challenges demands approaches that transcend traditional disciplinary boundaries. Today’s most pressing problems require insights from the multiple fields of expertise working in concert. Multidisciplinary research teams that integrate knowledge, methods, and perspectives from different disciplines have emerged as the powerful engines of scientific innovation and discovery. In healthcare and biotechnology particularly, the convergence of disciplines has become not merely advantageous but essential. The human body is a complex system where molecular biology intersects with physiology, psychology, and environmental factors. Understanding disease mechanisms, developing novel therapeutics, and implementing effective interventions necessarily involves expertise from the diverse fields. This article explores how multidisciplinary teams drive research excellence, examining their strategic importance, structural requirements, impacts, and future implications, with special attention to the transformative role of artificial intelligence and the opportunities for advancing Saudi Arabia’s national biotechnology strategy.
