Covalent organic frameworks improve fire safety and mechanical properties of epoxy resin, suggesting an innovative approach.
Enhancing the fire safety of materials has always posed a significant challenge. For example, epoxy resin (EP), a widely used high-performance polymer, is highly flammable and releases toxic smoke during combustion. Traditional methods for flame-retardant modification of epoxy resin exhibit numerous limitations, including complex operations, high costs, and potential detrimental effects on material properties. In recent years, crystalline porous materials, like covalent organic frameworks (COFs), have shown potential for improving the flame-retardant efficiency and compatibility of EP. In this study, we synthesize a new triazine-based covalent organic framework serving as a flame retardant for epoxy resin. The resulting COF flame retardant significantly enhances epoxy resin composites’ fire safety and mechanical properties, providing a concise and effective strategy for flame-retardant modification of materials.
