Review highlights psychogenic factors in dyspareunia, suggesting a multidisciplinary approach for effective therapy.
The purpose of this paper is to present current views on the pathogenetic mechanisms and therapy of dyspareunia, primarily its psychogenic variants. The review is based on the study of original Russian and English-language articles and our own extensive clinical experience. A biopsychosocial approach to understanding dyspareunia is presented, and the importance of identifying personal and psychosocial factors in its pathogenesis is highlighted. The necessity of an integrated multidisciplinary approach to therapy is discussed, and the most effective evidence-based therapeutic interventions are presented.
