Literature review explores multiple sclerosis and its comorbid depression, suggesting multidisciplinary treatment options.
Multiple sclerosis has attracted the attention of researchers since the Middle Ages, but in educational publications, the descriptive description of symptoms begins with researcher Jean-Martin Charcot. In the literature review, a historical thread has been drawn from the moment of the first descriptions of the symptoms to the current nosological disease. Nevertheless, the problems of the etiology of multiple sclerosis, its treatment, as well as issues of comorbid mental pathology in the form of anxiety, depressive disorders and cognitive impairments remain poorly understood. Differentiated approaches to the treatment of depression in multiple sclerosis have not been developed, taking into account current data on the mechanisms of their formation, which requires further study and the involvement of not only neurologists, but also psychiatrists and doctors of related disciplines in the study of this disease.
