This analysis reveals six types of khabar al-jumlah in an educational text, emphasizing Arabic grammar teaching.
This study investigates the predicate clause structures (Khabar al-Jumlah) found in Al-Qirā’ah al-Rashīdah, Part Three, authored by Abdul Fattah and Ali Umar. As a syntactic core of nominal sentences, Khabar al-Jumlah plays a fundamental role and represents one of the most recurrent grammatical features within the text. The book encompasses a variety of Khabar al-Jumlah types. This research is grounded in the theoretical frameworks of both classical and contemporary Arab grammarians in the definition and classification of Khabar al-Jumlah. Accordingly, this research aims to enhance students’ comprehension of the text and to expand their understanding of Arabic grammar. The significance of this study lies in its contribution to the enhancement of Arabic grammar instruction through the analysis of Khabar patterns in educational texts, thereby enabling teachers and learners to understand and apply them more effectively within instructional contexts. The scope of the study is confined to the analysis of predicate clause types, classified based on syntactic structure and transformation ( النسخ ), predicate category, and semantic function. The objectives of this research are: (1) to identify the types of Khabar al-Jumlah employed in the textbook, and (2) to determine their frequency of occurrence. This study adopts a descriptive approach through library research, utilizing quantitative content analysis and categorizing predicate types based on specific grammatical criteria. Purpose of the Study: (1) To identify the types of Khabar al-Jumlah employed in the textbook, (2) To determine Khabar al-Jumlah frequency of occurrence. Design/Methodology: Descriptive approach through library research, utilizing quantitative content analysis Findings: 1) The sentence predicates (Khabar al-Jumlah) in Al-Qirāʾah al-Rashīdah, Part Three, by ʿAbd al-Fattāḥ Ṣabrī and ʿAlī ʿUmar, are categorized into six types: verbal sentence predicates, nominal sentence predicates, nominal sentence predicates preceded by the particle إنّ, verbal sentence predicates transformed by the verb كان, by the verb ليس, and by the verb كاد. 2) The total number of sentence predicates identified in the book is 279. These include: 243 verbal sentence predicates, 20 nominal sentence predicates, 6 nominal sentence predicates introduced by إنّ, 4 predicates transformed by the verb كان, 4 predicates with the verb ليس, and 2 predicates with the verb كاد Research Limitations/Implications: Typological Analysis of Khabar al-Jumlah in Al-Qirā’ah ar-Rashīdah, Vol. III" Originality/Value: 1) Focused analysis on a syntactic pattern that has been relatively overlooked—namely, Khabar al-Jumlah, 2) Precise and procedural classification of Khabar al-Jumlah types based on clear syntactic and semantic indicators, 3) Meaningful integration between syntactic analysis and the educational objectives of the text, highlighting the functional role of grammar in language instruction.
