Research highlights motivation logic design's role in improving ecological attributes and stakeholder coordination in smart product service systems.
Abstract With the advancement of sustainable development and intelligent technology, Smart Product Service Systems (Smart PSS) have gained popularity. However, their diversified forms, ecological attributes, and stakeholder coordination pose challenges for traditional designers. This paper categorizes traditional design into physical and behavior logic design based on the S-O-R model, and introduces motivation logic design focusing on the implicit motivations. By shifting emphasis from explicit needs and behaviors to implicit motivations, motivation logic design offers ample design space and depth, adapting to diversified forms, ecological considerations, and benefit-related developments. The smart sports bra example, analyzed using the think aloud protocol, demonstrates motivation logic design's advantages in quality and quantity of design innovations. It addresses Smart PSS design challenges and achieves Need beyond User Expectations (NBUE) solutions, emerging as a novel paradigm for complex product design and a theoretical framework for Smart PSS and collaborative design innovation.
