This research reports the effect of glass microspheres on compressive properties in fiber-reinforced composites, suggesting their role as interfacial modifiers.
Fiber-reinforced composites are widely used owing to their high specific strength and stiffness. This paper takes glass fiber-epoxy composites as the research object, systematically investigating the influence of glass microspheres on the bulk compressive properties of composite blocks. The specimens were prepared by the hand layup process, with the matrix consisting of epoxy resin and curing agent. The reinforcements include woven and unidirectional (UD) glass fibers, and glass microspheres were added as interfacial modifiers. Through material preparation, bulk compression testing, and property analysis, the modification effect and action mechanism of glass microspheres on the bulk compressive properties of composites were revealed.
