Simulation study confirms refocusing within resolution limit in correlation plenoptic imaging systems, suggesting new evaluation methods.
We present a simulation study of correlation plenoptic imaging based on a wave-optical framework and pseudothermal light. The simulator models scalar propagation, pseudo-random speckle generation, and spatial coherence control across multiple frames. Intensity correlation function is computed from the simulated intensity patterns at the two detectors. We test the method by using triple-slit objects located in two axial positions: one within and one outside the resolution limit predicted by the theoretical model. The results confirm that successful refocusing occurs only within the expected resolution limit, in agreement with analytical predictions. The presented simulator is expetced to be an extremely useful tool for evaluating the performance of correlation imaging systems under realistic conditions, both optically and coherence wise.
