Case report describes a sebaceous adenoma in a 45-year-old female, suggesting links to Muir-Torre syndrome.
The lacrimal caruncle or caruncula lacrimalis is a modified cutaneous tissue located at the medial canthus of the eye. Caruncular lesions are uncommon, and sebaceous adenoma of the caruncle is a very rare tumour accounting for 1% of caruncular lesions. We report a case of sebaceous adenoma in a healthy adult female aged 45 years. The lesion was excised and subjected to histopathological examination, which confirmed the diagnosis. Immunohistochemistry was done as 50% of sebaceous adenoma are associated with Muir-Torre syndrome (MTS), and sebaceous adenoma could be the first sign of an underlying visceral malignancy. On account of the histological composition and rarity and variety of presentation of caruncular lesions, histopathological examination of excised lesions is recommended.
