Case report details management of vesicular dermatitis in python molurus, suggesting improved husbandry practices in zoos.
Dermatitis in snakes is often associated with inadequate environmental conditions, such as excessive humidity and poor hygiene, which compromise the skin health of reptiles. This study reports a case of vesicular dermatitis in a Python molurus housed at the Varginha Zoo, in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The aim of this report is to describe the management, diagnostic procedures, prognosis, and treatment approaches used, as well as to investigate the underlying causes of the condition. Treatment involved antibiotic therapy with gentamicin combined with fluid therapy. This case report aims to contribute to the prevention of dermatitis in captive snakes, supporting the improvement of husbandry practices in zoos and wildlife clinics. The findings also have the potential to expand scientific knowledge regarding dermatitis in reptiles and promote the well-being of these animals in captivity.
