Theoretical propositions analyze geography of social struggles, indicating new paths toward autonomy.
The text aims to put forward some theoretical and methodological propositions for the analysis of the Geography of Social Struggles based on the concept of geography , by Carlos Walter Porto-Gonçalves. Initially, I revisit the term geography to establish the parameters of the debate, distinguishing the dominant geography stemming from the capitalist-statist socio-spatial model of a single world-from the insurgent geo-graphies, in which social subjects inscribe the land in ways alternative to capitalism and build other worlds. I then reflect on methodological pathways we have adopted for analyzing the geo-graphies of social struggles, as well as on the imperative that our results become tools of struggle. I focus on some of the paths pursued by the peoples in struggle across our continent that point toward autonomy, highlighting certain particularities of their geo-graphies. Finally, I systematize the main ideas of the text and conclude with a consideration of the importance of Geography, as a science, remaining open to the geographical knowledge produced by diverse social subjects.
