Theoretical development of exergy and anergy formulations in unsteady aerodynamics, showing key distinctions and applications.
This study presents the development of an exergy analysis formulation applied to aerodynamics for unsteady flows. It discusses the main differences and similarities between steady and unsteady exergy formulations and their behaviors in aerodynamics. The proposed formulation assigns specific types of exergy (energy related to the capability of performing work) and anergy (associated with exergy destruction and, consequently, entropy) to all the terms involved in the unsteady exergy/anergy equilibrium within a control volume, adapted to typical aerodynamic analysis scenarios. This methodology also functions as a method for computing and decomposing drag in unsteady flows. Finally, the theoretical development of the unsteady exergy/anergy equilibrium in aerodynamics is demonstrated.
