The importance of environmental issues for the agricultural industry under martial law necessitates a study of the real state of affairs in terms of the application of mineral and organic fertilizers and pesticides in Ukraine from 1990 to 2023 on the available areas of agricultural land in agricultural enterprises. The purpose of the article is to present an analysis of current environmental protection expenditures by type of environmental protection activity from 2000 to 2023 in Ukraine; to identify the features arising from intensive cultivation of agricultural lands; and to indicate the actual current expenditures for the protection and rehabilitation of soil, groundwater, surface water, and waste management in Ukraine from 2000 to 2023. To achieve the specified goal, the work used methods of analysis, generalization, and comparison, which allowed for a comprehensive study of the existing scientific achievements on the issues of environmentalization of the agricultural sector of Ukraine under martial law. The article substantiates and reveals the need for protection and rehabilitation of soil, groundwater, surface water, and waste management in Ukraine. Itʼs indicated that the ecological state of soils is affected by cultivation methods, the use of mineral and organic fertilizers, pesticides, and the damage caused to agriculture as a result of the war. It was found that despite the almost unchanged volume of agricultural land over the past 15 years, there is still a noticeable reduction in the number of current expenditures for the protection and rehabilitation of soil, groundwater, surface water, and waste management in Ukraine from 2022 to 2023. A statistical analysis of the volume of use of mineral and organic fertilizers and pesticides in Ukraine from 1990 to 2023 is presented. The author expresses the opinion that itʼs necessary to develop a mechanism for the ecological development of the agricultural sector of Ukraine with the development of relevant and effective tools. The researcher takes the position that there is a need to return to the pre-war level of spending on environmental protection by type of environmental protection activity.
