Research reveals that the electromagnetic design improves torque output in hub motors, indicating its potential in electric vehicle applications.
Against the background of the rapid development of new energy vehicles, hub motors have become a research hotspot due to their advantages of integrated drive functions and simplified vehicle structure. This paper conducts electromagnetic design and finite element simulation research on permanent magnet synchronous hub motors with a rated power of 10 kW and a peak power of 20 kW. Based on the requirements of limited space and high power density of electric vehicles, the technical indicators are determined, and the surface-mounted permanent magnet structure and fractional slot concentrated winding are adopted. The key size parameters are determined by theoretical calculation. The model is established by using finite element software to analyze the static magnetic field distribution and transient performance (including torque, current, and loss characteristics under load). The results show that the magnetic field distribution, torque output, and loss level of the motor under rated and peak conditions meet the design requirements, providing a reference for engineering applications.
