This research reveals multiredox activity in a cyclobutadiene macrocycle, indicating new insights into organometallic structures.
This work reports the synthesis of a 1,3-linked tetracyclopentadienylcobalt-cyclobutadiene macrocycle ([CpCoCb]4) via Pt-templated cyclization. Structural characterization by SCXRD confirms a Ci-symmetric nanohoop (1.5 nm diameter). Unique CH−π interactions drive the 1D channel packing. Electrochemical studies reveal multiredox activity. This work establishes a new paradigm for strained organometallic architectures with potential applications in multistate molecular electronics and host–guest systems.
