This research demonstrates that negative γ / γ′-lattice misfit improves creep rupture strength in nickel-based superalloys, highlighting the importance of crystallographic orientation.
Single crystals with axial crystallographic orientation <001> of the experimental nickel-based superalloys with negative, zero and positive γ / γ′-lattice misfit have been obtained by the method of directional solidification. The γ′-solvus, solidus, and liquidus temperatures of the single crystals of alloys were determined. Investigations of the microstructure of the single crystals of alloys after directional solidification, heat treatment and creep tests were carried out. Creep tests of single-crystal samples made of alloys were carried out at temperatures of 800 and 1000 °С. It was established that the highest creep resistance and creep rupture strength were possessed by single crystals of superalloys with negative γ / γ′-lattice misfit (the period of the γ′-lattice is less than of the γ-lattice).
