This study demonstrates how paraffin oil affects pore size in bioceramics, indicating potential for bioresorbable implants.
The effect of a dispersion medium (paraffin oil) on the size distribution of pores in ceramic materials based on Ca3(PO4)2 intended for bioresorbable implants has been studied. The influence of the pore size on the mechanical properties of such materials was established. The use of photocurable emulsions for the preparation of ceramic materials with a porosity of more than 50% is shown to be promising, as well as the possibility of controlling the pore size distribution. With an increase in the emulsifier content in the emulsion from 0.035 to 0.25% (wt.), the pore size decreases from 275 to 100 microns. The uniaxial compressive strength of ceramics with a relative density of 52% and an average pore size of 250 μm is 2.87 MPa.
