Investigation reveals barrel defects in flanging, suggesting corrections for torus-shaped punches.
The process of flanging a hole in a part with a punch with a flat end and a torus-shaped rounding has been studied. It was established that the barrel defect occurred if the radius of the torus part of the punch was comparable to thickness of the deformable sheet. Recommendations are given for this defect correction.
