Case report discusses rapid improvement of vision issues from mumps-related keratitis, suggesting prompt treatment is crucial.
Mumps-associated keratitis is a rare but potentially vision-threatening complication of mumps infection. We report a case of a 10-year-old male patient who developed keratitis after contracting mumps, despite having measles-mumps-rubella vaccination coverage. The patient presented with blurred vision, pain, redness, lacrimation, and photophobia in his right eye. Slit lamp examination revealed diffuse corneal stromal edema, conjunctival congestion, and keratic precipitates. The patient was diagnosed with mumps-related kerato-uveitis and treated with topical prednisolone acetate, cycloplegic, and lubricants. The patient’s visual acuity improved rapidly, and the keratitis resolved with treatment. This case report highlights the importance of early diagnosis and treatment of mumps-associated keratitis to prevent long-term vision loss.
