This research demonstrates enhanced data reliability on corrosion inhibitors in gas facilities, suggesting improved testing methods.
The abatement problem against internal corrosion and the use of inhibitory protection against it is relevant at gas facilities under conditions of production and transportation of hydrocarbons in the presence of aggressive СО2. In order to obtain more reliable data on the protective properties of corrosion inhibitors in oil-and-gas laboratory practice, in addition to traditional (gravimetric and electrochemical) methods the measurement of the wetting edge angle and the use of cyclic voltammetry have been tested. According to the measurements of the wetting edge angle, it was found that after corrosion tests in the presence of a corrosion inhibitor, the steel surface became more hydrophobic in comparison with the non-inhibited medium. The obtained results correlate with the protective properties obtained by traditional corrosion testing methods. It is shown that the method of cyclic voltammetry allows one to carry out a comparative analysis of the film-forming properties of corrosion inhibitors.
