Interviews highlight early-career researchers, emphasizing the comparative approach in studying diverse physiological systems.
ECR Spotlight is a series of interviews with early-career authors from a selection of papers published in Journal of Experimental Biology and aims to promote not only the diversity of early-career researchers (ECRs) working in experimental biology but also the huge variety of animals and physiological systems that are essential for the ‘comparative’ approach. Brian D. Saltin is an author on ‘ The biomechanical dilemma of phasmid eggs – how do stick insects hatch?’, published in JEB. Brian conducted the research described in this article while a Post Doctoral research fellow in Jan-Henning Dirks, Susanna Labisch, Jörg Müssig's lab at Hochschule Bremen –City University of Applied Sciences, Germany. Brian is now a post-doc at the University of Bonn, Germany, investigating diversity, disparity and function of cuticular mechanoreceptors in insects.
