Analysis reveals key language means of locativity in Internet news, highlighting objective and subjective orientations.
The article considers the category of locativity as a functionalsemantic field. The aim was to identify and analyze the major language means representing the category as well as the semantic and functional features of its manifestation in the Internet news discourse. As the material for the study, the news texts from local sites were selected by continuous sampling. As a result, firstly, several microfields were identified within the field: objective orientation, subjective orientation, movement in space and parametrization of the world. Secondly, it was found that the microfield of objective orientation was the largest while the microfield of movement in space turned out the smallest. Finally, it was discovered that depending on the microfield the major language means of representing the category were case and prepositioncase noun patterns, locative adverbs, verbs of movement and prepositioncase noun patterns that they govern as well as lexical units denoting threedimensional feature and asymmetry.
