Experimental analysis shows temperature affects yields from co-pyrolysis of HDPE and waste newspapers, indicating potential for improved waste management.
High-density polyethylene (HDPE) and waste newspapers (WP) have the potential to revolutionize waste management and energy issues. HDPE was initially co-pyrolyzed with feedstock generated from waste newspapers (WP) to increase the yield of oil. Significant pyrolytic activities were observed in the temperature range of 450–650 °C. TGA and DTG results confirm that HDPE is more thermally stable than waste newspaper in the lower temperature range. A key contribution of our work is the evaluation of synergistic effects between WP and HDPE, where both theoretical and experimental yields were calculated and compared. Remarkably, the synergy parameter across all temperature ranges was positive, confirming the beneficial interactions of the feedstock combination. GC-MS and NMR analysis confirm the presence of alcohol, ester, and ether in the oil phase. Future work may focus on parameters such as WP: HDPE ratio and residence time, which may reveal additional pathways to maximize yield.
