Analysis reveals bioactive compounds in Thymus vulgaris extracts, suggesting potential for pharmaceutical and cosmetology applications.
Thyme (Thymus vulgaris L.) - a perennial essential oil semi-shrub, distributed throughout the world. Thyme herb synthesizes a wide range of secondary metabolites that cause a number of pharmacological activities, including antiviral, antibacterial, and anti-inflammatory. The most common area of work is the study of essential oil. However, the study of alcohol extracts is becoming more and more relevant. The aim was to determine the content of biologically active compounds in the grass of thyme, which grows in dry subtropical conditions. The extracts were obtained by ultrasonic extraction. The total content of polyphenols was determined by reaction with the Folin-Chocalteu reagent, flavonoids by complexation reaction with aluminum chloride. The data obtained can contribute to the development of technologies for the production of phytocomponents for use in the pharmaceutical and cosmetology industries.
