Analysis of essential oils and biologically active compounds in two Artemisia species, indicating various therapeutic potentials.
In this publication, based on the analysis of the component composition, the prospects for the use of raw materials of two types of wormwood - Artemisia armeniaca Lam. (armenian wormwood) and Artemisia latifolia Ledeb. (broadleaf wormwood), growing in Russia are outlined. The content of extractive substances, the composition of essential oils, as well as alcohol, chloroform, water, acetone and diethyl ether extracts are considered. It was found that armenian wormwood contains biologically active substances such as 2-thuene, 3-O-methyl-D-glucose, α-d-methylmannofuranoside, α-ocimene, α-pinene, β-myrcene, valeranone, herniarin, laminitol, lycoxanthin, sabinene; in the raw material of broadleaf wormwood - valricin A, laminitol, biphenyl, β-myrcene, hematoporphyrin. Extracts of these species can have a wide range of effects on warm-blooded organisms, including antioxidant, antiseptic, anti-inflammatory and antiproliferative activity. These data complement the already proven antimalarial and antiapoptotic activity of armenian wormwood extracts.
