Synthesis demonstrates pronounced chirality and configurational stability in curved nanographene, indicating potential applications.
Curved nanographene 1, featuring two sp3 stereocenters, was synthesized through a Scholl-type oxidative cyclodehydrogenation accompanied by an unexpected aryl rearrangement. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction revealed that two sp3 carbons in the fused polycyclic skeleton induce pronounced distortion, enforcing an almost orthogonal orientation between the two aromatic sheets. These stereocenters endow 1 with inherent chirality and remarkable configurational stability. The enantiomers of 1 were successfully resolved and displayed well-defined, mirror-image circular dichroism spectra.
