This overview highlights shifts in foodways and settlement patterns among Holocene peoples, indicating adaptation strategies.
Dramatic increases in knowledge about middle Holocene and late Holocene transition peoples living on the southeastern Atlantic coastline have occurred in the last few decades. This paper provides an overview of these advances, with a focus on the adoption of new foodways and settlement patterns; the production of communal goods and deployment of group labor; terraforming and exchange facilitated by ceremonial gatherings; and technological innovation. Advancements in these realms of knowledge, along with others, are changing how we understand how people adapted to changes occurring during the end of the middle Holocene.
