This analysis compares energy efficiency of green hydrogen-fueled engines with gasoline engines, indicating potential improvements in operational parameters.
This article aims to model and evaluate the energy efficiency of an internal combustion engine operating under the Otto cycle and fueled by a mixture of green hydrogen and oxygen gas, as well as to compare this efficiency with that of gasoline-powered engines. First, the operational parameters of the engine were modeled, and the combustion characteristics and energy release of green hydrogen were investigated. Subsequently, Matlab codes were developed to calculate the engine efficiency based on variable parameters. Finally, the results were compared with those of existing engines operating under the Otto cycle. The calculations and comparisons revealed that, due to technological barriers yet to be overcome, the idealized engine exhibits significantly lower energy release compared to conventional engines analyzed in this study, indicating that adjustments in operational parameters are required for their suitability in practical applications.
