This study develops a methodology integrating the SQ3R method to improve foreign language proficiency in heterogeneous groups of students.
The study aims to develop a methodology for organizing and conducting extensive reading in groups of undergraduate/graduate students with different levels of foreign language proficiency (B1-C1) at a non-linguistic faculty. The article examines the role, characteristics, and functions of extensive reading in the context of studying a foreign language in higher education, as well as existing methods of organizing work with this aspect in Russian universities. In addition, the study describes the SQ3R method (Survey, Question, Read, Recite, and Review) and hypothesizes about the possibility of integrating its elements into the methodology of conducting extensive reading in English language classes at a non-linguistic faculty. The scientific novelty of this article lies in the presentation of an adapted methodology for conducting extensive reading for heterogeneous groups of non-linguistic students in the context of teaching undergraduate/graduate students with different initial levels of English language proficiency, supplemented by elements of the SQ3R method. As a result of the research, the potential and expediency of applying this approach to extensive reading were revealed implemented through a comprehensive combination of elements used in Russian linguodidactics and individual components of the SQ3R method in modern foreign language teaching practice.
