Literature review indicates laser therapy improves healing duration and reduces complications in mucocele treatment.
Research objective: To compare the effectiveness, benefits, and limitations of surgical versus laser treatment methods in the management of oral mucoceles. Methodology: A literature review was conducted, analyzing available clinical data on recurrence rates, healing duration, patient comfort, and postoperative complications associated with both treatment modalities. Main conclusions: Laser treatment of mucoceles tends to offer shorter healing time, better patient comfort, and fewer postoperative complications, while surgical excision, although effective, may present a higher recurrence rate and longer recovery period. Application of the study: The findings can support dental practitioners and oral surgeons in selecting the most appropriate treatment strategy for mucoceles, enhancing patient care by reducing discomfort and improving clinical outcomes. Originality/Novelty of the study: The study provides an updated comparative overview of two commonly used treatment approaches for mucoceles, highlighting the increasing role of laser therapy as a less invasive and more patient-friendly option.
