Analysis reveals a decrease in objection strategies in written English scientific articles, highlighting the impact of standardization.
The article examines the dynamics of objection strategy in written English scientific discourse from 1931 to 2006. The relevance of the research is due to the need to study the linguistic means functioning to explain the mechanisms of expressing communicative intentions. The research was conducted on the basis of scientific works extracted from the Brown Family diachronic corpus hosted on the CQP web server. The methods of contextual, definitional, comparative and quantitative analysis were used. It is established that due to the changes in the compositional structure of the text the number of linguistic units of objection had decreased by the 21st century. The articles published in 1931 are characterized by a freer structure. With the development of scientific communication and the institutionalization of science, the structure of scientific articles became standardized. The articles dated 2006 necessarily include a results section, where the results of the study are presented, and a discussion section, devoted to the interpretation and explanation of the significance of the results achieved. It is defined, that the tendency to emphasize new scientific knowledge led to a decrease in the number of critical statements regarding the old one and was manifested at the linguistic level in a reduction in the number of means of objections. The scientific novelty of the research is that it presents the diachronic development of the stratagem-tactical organization of an English scientific article. The obtained results contribute to the development of the functional stylistics, the theory of discourse and genre studies, expanding the understanding of the specifics of the English-language scientific text. The practical value of the research is that its results can help authors to adapt their works more effectively to the norms of scientific communication. The prospects of the research are related to the study of the influence of socio-cultural factors on the modern development of scientific articles.
