Cobalt-doped lanthanum chromite efficiently lowers decomposition temperatures of hydroxyl ammonium nitrate, indicating viable monopropellant applications.
Cobalt‐doped lanthanum chromite perovskite was employed as catalyst for the thermal decomposition of Hydroxyl ammonium nitrate (HAN), a green monopropellant emerging as a replacement over hydrazine. The perovskite with optimal composition of LaCr 0.8 Co 0.2 O 3 , synthesized using aloe vera gel as a capping agent significantly lowers the onset and peak decomposition temperature of HAN between 35 °C and 54 °C, respectively. The pressure rise in pulse mode batch reactor testing underscores its catalytic efficiency. LCCO‐AV yielded benign combustion products on HAN decomposition, highlighting its potential for monopropellant catalytic applications.
