Study optimizes extraction of phenolic compounds and pectin from jabuticaba bark, suggesting efficient methods for bioactive compound recovery.
The objective of this work was to optimize the extraction of total phenolic compounds (TPC) and total anthocyanins (TA) and study the effect on the sequential extraction of pectin from fresh jaboticaba peel. A central rotational composite design was used to study the effects of mass fractions containing ethanol and hydrochloric acid in aqueous solution on the extraction of bioactive compounds. The extracts were quantified for CFT, AT and antioxidant activity by ABTS and FRAP. The residues were used for sequential pectin extraction, which was quantified and characterized. The response variables were evaluated together using the desirability function, and an aqueous solution with 21.7% ethanol and 0.29% acid proved to be the most suitable point for the sequential extraction of AT and pectin, with greater results for AT and pectin yield when statistical models were applied.
